North Hollywood, CA – April 17, 2006 – ProtoType Industries, inc. (PTI), announced today that it has successfully delivered the industry’s first ATA iSpec2200 SGML/CGM compliant In-Flight Entertainment System (IFES) Aircraft Maintenance Manual (AMM). The Aircraft Illustrated Parts Catalog (AIPC) was also successfully delivered. These manuals are part of the suite that documents Panasonic Avionics Corporation’s new-generation IFES.
Standard Generalized Markup Language (SGML) is used to tag complex texts for preservation, re-use, searching, and display. Using this technology, PTI’s patent-pending authoring tool, SkyWriter®, allows data to be integrated directly into the Airbus AirN@v interactive e-documentation system, which resides onboard the A380 aircraft. The integration of original source authoring and electronic search and retrieval technologies has eliminated the need for printed material, thus saving hundreds of hours of manpower and thousands of pounds in potential flying weight.
“In the past, the typical business process has been to provide the OEM with an AMM supplement, which in turn was manually re-typed and re-illustrated by the OEM into their proprietary publishing systems. This process consumed manpower, time, and valuable resources. With our authoring tool, we are able to provide data that can be instantaneously integrated into the OEM systems and abide by all of their requirements, as well as the ATA specs.” – Irene Gregorie (President and C.E.O, ProtoType Industries)
The successful business-to-business cooperative efforts and integration of the data has been enthusiastically received by Panasonic and Airbus alike:
“Customer satisfaction has always been Panasonic’s primary objective. The documentation initiatives that PTI has pioneered on our behalf are examples of our on-going commitment to provide our customers with outstanding products and product support services.” – Paul Margis (President, Panasonic Avionics Corporation)
“We would like to thank both PTI and Panasonic for your exceptional cooperation in this project. For the first time, we (Airbus)…have the opportunity to include IFE vendor maintenance source data directly into AirN@v for the first delivery of our A380 aircraft to Singapore Airlines. This is a real example of how digital data can help improve the usability of our technical data products by our customers” - Thierry Rollin (Vice President, Airbus Technical Data Support & Services)
