SUMMARY
Responsibilities include general proofreading of technical manuals with an emphasis on correct grammar, punctuation, spelling, and writing clarity.  In addition, the editor will perform substantive editing tasks to seek out inconsistencies in style, locate errors of a factual nature, identify and query questionable statements or conclusions, and check cross references of information for accuracy to ensure projects are error-free.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties may be assigned)

  • Reviews program documentation to ensure ATA standards and customer requirements are adhered to, formatting of documents and other assistance in the development of technical publications
  • Coordinates/oversees development of a technical writing style guide to establish sound writing practices
  • Provides technical and administrative direction for personnel authoring technical and non-technical deliverables, including the review of documents for comprehension, adherence to writing standards
  • Coordinates with the Project Manager and/or Quality Assurance Engineers/Manager to facilitate problem resolution and user satisfaction
  • Recognizes problems and brings them to supervisor’s attention with sufficient lead time to avert crises
  • Reports weekly status to relevant team leaders

  • Able to write requirements, specifications, and technical analysis documents as required

  • Knowledge of electro-mechanical drawings and support documentation
  • Understanding of various publication processes such as editing, illustration, writing, production phases
  • Professional familiarity with ATA-100 and ATA iSpec2200 specifications
  • Knowledge of aviation industry regulatory bodies (for example, FAA) general requirements
  • Must be able to actively pursue learning position and mastering job skills and requirements
  • Able to use general office equipment

QUALIFICATIONS

  • B.S. in English, Linguistics, Electro-Mechanical Engineering, or Communications, as applicable.  MBA or continuing education certification a plus
  • Minimum five years experience including product development, marketing, sales, production, finance, accounting, human resources, payroll, and general business operations, as applicable
  • Typing skills of 60 wpm
  • An energetic, forward-thinking, and creative individual with high ethical standards and an appropriate professional image
  • Thorough understanding of computerized administrative systems, including electronic spreadsheet, database, and presentation software is essential, for example, the MS Office Suite
  • Strong communication skills as well as a high degree of creativity, ingenuity and business judgment are required.  The individual should be a good listener and capable of providing customers an acceptable forum to communicate their needs and provide solutions to reported issues or problems
  • Strong analytical skills and the demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects
