Position Responsibilities

A leading technical publications company is seeking an experienced Director of Human Resources. The candidate should preferably have at least 10 years of progressive HR experience in engineering environments of at least 50 employees that may be located in multiple states.   The HR Director will report to the CEO of this well-established and expanding company. 

The HR Director will provide HR strategic direction and full accountability for the successful implementation of HR-related processes, practices, policies and outcomes.  Participation in planning the strategic direction of the organization and in developing long-range plans to achieve company objectives is a must.

The HR Director will:

  • Assist functional leaders to ensure effective organization structure, communication, problem analysis and resolution.
  • Drive change management to ensure a constantly learning and growing organization.
  • Partner with management to ensure that organization structure, design and staffing of positions, and utilization of human resources are effective and consistent with business needs.
  • Provide counsel in the design and implementation of new organization structures and processes to help increase overall organization effectiveness and customer satisfaction.

• Organization Leadership:

Participate in planning the strategic direction of the organization and in developing long-range plans to achieve objectives. Identify and address human resources issues significant to the achievement of those plans and objectives. Partner with the other members of the leadership team in managing the business and integrating the human resource function with business activities to provide value to the customer. Assist leaders in promoting proactive changes which enable the organization to successfully address a rapidly changing internal and external environment. Develop a strong knowledge of the business, products, markets, competitors, etc.

• Organization Effectiveness / Development:

Assist leadership team in ensuring effective organization structure, communication, problem analysis and resolution. Drive change management to ensure a constantly learning and growing organization. Partner with management to ensure that organization structure, design and staffing of positions, and utilization of human resources are effective and consistent with business needs. Provide counsel in the design and implementation of new organization structures and processes to help increase overall organization effectiveness and customer satisfaction. Perform Talent Reviews, Organization Reviews, Performance Reviews, etc.

• Talent Acquisition:

Manage the staffing process and effectively develop strategies to recruit and fill open positions and future talent needs with superior talent, while ensuring a diversity of talent for each open position. Effectively identify and plan for future talent needs and continually upgrade the talent brought into the organization. Support and provide direction and knowledge of immigration practices, H1-B visa, and other work visas/work sponsorship issues.

• Training and Development:

Lead and implement employee and leadership development strategy; consult with leadership team on staff training and development needs. With leadership team, develop strategies to improve training and development needs.

• Employee Relations / Rewards Management:

Anticipate, identify and facilitate resolution of employee relations issues. Act as internal consultant, identifying and partnering with others as appropriate, in addressing issues (e.g., employee morale, interpersonal problems, work conditions, etc.). Counsel leadership team regarding policies/practices, legal considerations, and company priorities—advocating both company and employee concerns. Possess a thorough knowledge of relevant legislative requirements.

Effectively implement and communicate company compensation and benefits programs to successfully attract, motivate and retain employees. Assist in identifying and developing innovative incentive/reward systems which address the unique needs of the organization. Ensure clear differentiation of talent through rewards and recognition.

Participate with leadership team in best practices research as it applies to the organization overall. Provide leadership and/or serve as representation on corporate committees or task forces. Manage/participate on key projects and initiatives as required.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • 10 years of progressive HR experience, at the minimum.
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Management or Professional HR designation preferred.
  • Successful track record as an HR generalist with involvement in organization design and development, change management, employee relations, compensation and benefits, employment, and employee training and development.
  • Previous leadership experience in a dynamic, high-growth business.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, strong relationship building and interpersonal skills, proven success influencing and motivating others.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing change initiatives.
  • Knowledge of immigration practices, H1-B visa, and other work visas.
  • Computer skills: word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software, including MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.
  • Track record of bringing tangible value to business.
  • Knowledge of employment law.
